Trying Hard Not To Be Blown Away
Woowee, is it windy outside. I walked down to the grocery store to get some eggs and almost got blown away. I hear the West coast is getting hit with a bad storm and strong winds.
Well, seems like most of the U.S. is blown away by the results from the Iowa caucuses. What a turnout and a big win for Obama and Huckabee. I don't know if it was such a surprise that Obama would win, but Huckabee coming out of nowhere with little money and dominating the Republicans -- that's surprising. It will be interesting to see what happens in New Hampshire. Seems like the Clinton campaign may be in trouble with such a disappointing third place finish.
I finally did a bit of research on these candidates to get a better understanding of their stance on major issues like health care, taxes, the environment, etc. Did you know that Huckabee wants to do away with income taxes, payroll taxes, social security and medicare taxes, and instead implement a consumption tax of 23% on all goods? It's quite a radical concept known as the FairTax. It sounds good in theory, but is it? That'll sure take the fun out of shopping. Imagine if it actually happened, Americans would be crossing the border to Canada to shop rather than the other way around! I doubt such a system would be widely accepted.
For anyone who's flown the friendly or not-so-friendly skies a lot, you will certainly appreciate this blog entry. It's a really good laugh at the nonsensical rituals of flying, which all flyers can relate to.
